1000 Ways Fibromyalgia Get Started

December 22, 2009 by Lisa

I believe there are probably about 1000+ ways to heal fibromyalgia via body and mind work.
I also believe there are 1000+ ways fibromyalgia gets started. We may all have a similar subset of end-result symptoms that are directly and indirectly caused by stress chemicals and the resulting muscle and tissue imbalances, BUT …

The exact things we do and don’t do and ignore and rationalize and justify and medicate are many, and unique to each of us. We are each at the same time very similar and extremely different.

That’s why I like my treatments: they focus on the heart of the body’s issues, and it doesn’t matter exactly what you did to get where you are (having fibromyalgia). Without exception, you can get back to where you want to be (healthy).

Here’s some things I did that started fibromyalgia in my body:

Fibro started when I was a child, I’m sure, and there were many things that were DONE TO ME that created fibromyalgia, however, I perpetuated all those things by not being able to LET THEM GO.

As an adult, I have ignored my body’s signals and symptoms that it needed rest or something other than I was giving it – for example, I have worked all day on a computer, came home with a headache, taken two motrin and a half hour nap and gotten back on the computer.

I have also eaten a lot of food for reasons other than hunger. I spent many years with no exercise program or rest and rejuvenation program or stretching program.

I have cultivated states of anger and irritation. I have allowed myself to complain and dwell in bitterness and resentment. I have felt helpless and powerless and fearful.

I have done things I knew I felt bad about, but did them anyway.

What I am trying to say here, is that I don’t believe fibromyalgia starts in people who feel powerful, safe, and worthy, and who have clarity, vision, and faith.

I do believe that the body state of fibromyalgia corresponds to mind states like unworthiness, fear, resentment, and anxiety.

I believe anyone who undertakes the task of creating a healthy body will eventually have to clean up many emotional and mental patterns and beliefs that no longer serve them before they make it all the way into health.

There’s no reason not to start with nothing but a good stretching program and a willingness to deal with the mental stuff when it comes up. I only had the good stretching program when I started getting better, and I still got better :) .
