Coconut Oil and Fibromyalgia

Can coconut oil help fibromyalgia? I think it can. I added coconut oil to my diet in year 3 of my recovery. I had read a book: The Coconut Diet; The Secret Ingredient that Helps You Lose Weight while You Eat your Favorite Foods and it stressed the value of coconut oil in a diet for losing weight. I added coconut oil to my diet, and I definitely saw benefits.
The big benefits I noticed strictly from the coconut oil were:
I believe coconut oil is an incredibly healthy fat, so every time I cook with it I feel the satisfaction of eating something I feel is healthy. The only other oil I believe that about is olive oil, but olive oil lends a taste to things that isn’t always desireable. You can even bake with coconut oil.
My digestion smoothed out a little more. I already was doing well thanks to some minor dietary changes and probiotics, but when I make sure to eat coconut oil every day, everything just ‘moves’ better, if you know what I mean.
I did not lose any weight just from the addition of coconut oil to my diet, but I did stop gaining. Literally, I haven’t gained weight in 2 years now, even over holidays and vacations. and occasionally I lose a little. This is actually a first in my whole life.
Coconut oil tastes good, and has increased my vegetable and healthy soup intake. I LOVE the taste of spinach fried in coconut oil and soups made with coconut oil. yum, yum, yum. I love low-carb mac and cheese with coconut oil instead of butter. It even adds something to smoothies, a kind of yummy weight.
My skin no longer gets dry. I seem to be lotioning from the inside out. I don’t get dry scalp or skin anymore.
You can even use coconut oil as chapstick. I have even used it to brush my teeth when I wasn’t using toothpaste (because it interfered with a medicine I was taking) and it make my mouth feel quite clean.
I have read that eating coconut oil regularly trains your body to burn a little more fat for energy instead of solely carbs, and that’s why it helps you lose weight. Maybe it helps your body not be so susceptible to the insulin / adrenaline cycle that people with carbohydrate intolerance have. this could be incredibly important to someone with fibromyalgia and carb intolerance who was not ready to make major dietary changes.
So, if you are buying coconut oil, get unrefined (virgin) coconut oil. I like the Spectrum and Nutiva brands because they have the best prices, in my experience. I get coconut oil at the health food store, or at evitamins or amazon.
