Stop Reading the Newspaper and Watching the News; Fibromyalgia Busting Tip

July 21, 2009 by Lisa

For some reason, the news and newspapers go all around the world finding the most horrible and gut-wrenchingly scary and sad tidbits of information they can find, set them to music or put a big, bold font on them, and then tell you all about them.

Well, I guess I know why they do this; because if it scares, it sells.  If it’s scary, and it makes you feel fear, but then they promise to tell you how to keep yourself relatively safe from this scary circumstance, then you will tune in.  If you tune in, then they make money.

Staying Informed to Stay Safe is Not Worth What it does to Your Body – And Does Staying Informed Really Keep You Safe?  I don’t think so.

Well, I believe that this bracing, this gathering of information so as to guard oneself against something is part of what causes fibro.  I KNOW that throughout our lives we learn to brace and guard against many things.  We learn that fear and terror and anger and worry feel really bad and so we develop these habits to try to minimize these emotions in our lives.

The tension that this always-being-on-guard creates in our bodies, believe it or not is worse than the damage of any actual events could ever be, mostly because it is sneaky, and always with us, and we never stop and recover.

If something really horrible happened to you, once the incident is over, you would recognize the need for healing in your life and take the necessary steps to heal your body and your mind.  Others would help you.   You would let them.

However, when you constantly read the newspaper and watch the news just to ‘stay informed’ just in case, even though it all makes you feel bad – there’s no end point!  It never ends!  It’s every day!

Take a Vacation From The News – It Will Feel Like an Actual Vacation

I wonder if this is one reason why vacations are so relaxing and healing.  Most people probably don’t watch the news on vacation yes?  Well, I say that everyday should be a vacation from the news!  Especially if you have fibromyalgia.  Start to feel better FIRST, and then decide if you want to watch the news or not.

I don’t watch the news.  I don’t read the newspaper.  I don’t discuss current events unless they are really fun and great events.

I saw that Micheal Jackson had died on VH1 and decided my response, whenever I heard of that, was going to be “He was such a Genius. ” and that’s what I said whenever anone discussed him with me.  I refused to go into anything that made me feel bad.  Admitting “It’s so sad that he’s gone” would have made me feel bad, so I didn’t go there.   I just thought about how amazing he was in his field.

So try it!  And let me know your experiences!
